Hiking with the Alb Guides

Over the Albuch, the Härtsfeld, along the banks of the river Brenz and around Heidenheim - Get active and experience an exciting and eventful tour.
The Alb Guides of the NABU (German Association for the Protection of Nature) Heidenheim will show you the unique magic of the Swabian Alb while you enjoy the topic or event tours.

Suggestions for tours

The Albschäferweg (Sheperds' tour of the Swabian Alb)

There are even nowadays sheperds in the Brenz region, who move with their flock from one grazing ground to another. The frugal sheep protect the typical juniper heathland, meadow valleys and edges of the forests from bush encroachment and thus maintain valuable habitats for rare animal and plant species. Enjoy the distant hiking tour, which has won an award of the Deutsche Wanderverband (German Hiking Association).
The Albschäferweg is marked with the symbol of a sheperd on a blue background.

Mergelstetter Wasserweg ("Waterway" of Mergelstetten)

The Mergelstetter Wasserweg starts between Mergelstetten and Heidenheim at the Brunnenmühlquelle Well. It leads hikers along idyllic wells, streams and the river Brenz, of course. The circular hiking tour passes through the forest along many beautiful views and ends after approximately 2 hours and 8 km at the Brunnenmühlquelle Well, if you hike at a leisurely pace. There are no challenging climbs on the topic tour and several spots will invite hikers to rest or even dangle their legs in the water. You can buy a flyer about the Mergelstetter Wasserweg for 1 € at the Tourist Information Centre.
